PG *wesaną, OE wesan V (cf. bēon) and the corresponding subset of ME bẹ̄n, MnE be. Earlier lexical form vesa; inflected variants include present singular er, est, es, preterite vas, plural órum, vórum, participle vesinn. The present operates mostly like a preterite, but in its preterite this verb strictly follows the fifth strong conjugation.
